About

Hi! I am Lynn

Welcome to my sewing adventures

Hi! I’m Lynn, mother of 4, financial entrepreneur, self-taught sewing enthusiast since 2009.

My exposure began from childhood. My mama sewed clothes for me, and in high school we had a basic home-economics module that included making a simple top and quilted bag. My best friend and I broke so many of mama’s sewing machine needles on that blasted quilted bag – and shed plenty of tears along the way. I thought that was the end of my sewing experience.

My interest rekindled in 2009 when I was stressed with my day job. It gave me an excuse to buy sewing books, fabrics and sewing notions, but I had to learn to make sense of the instructions and patterns on my own. Along the way, I also discovered that :
—-books supposedly for beginners are not always that basic
—-reference materials were often repetitive content that were not necessarily easier to understand
—-finding reasonably-priced fabrics and notions for beginner sewists were also a challenge

I eventually opened up my own sewing studio with my mama, selling American and Japanese quilting cotton and all the materials you associate with sewing, and taking custom orders for bags, dresses and quilts. My mama taught classes for different projects as well. We wrapped up this venture after 3 years when I realized the stress of handling a retail business plus working with a deadline for all custom orders took away the joy we had in sewing.

I hope to share my love of sewing here, and give you a starting point for your sewing journey. It can be rewarding, it is definitely useful, but I hope you find the fun and joy in it as well.

Lynn
